NSSF First Shots?

Seems my local range is participating in the NSSF First Shots program, a free, 3-hour introduction to shooting with handguns.

I have a friend who might be interested in learning to shoot, and this could be perfect for her. Does anyone have any experience with First Shots?

  1. TD,

Haven’t any direct experience with First Shots, but I did schedule my wife to go to one, but she had something else planned.

From talking to the range master for the event, it sounded like a lot of very relaxed .22 shooting, with appropriate safety training.

  2. It should be a good event. It’s similiar to the NRA Women on Target events I’ve helped run, but the NSSF decided to open their version to shooters of either gender. Most likely it will cover the “Four Rules” and the very basics of shooting. It’s designed to give people a taste of shooting under controlled conditions but will not be an especially in depth lesson typically.

Btw, you probably remember that I’m an instructor somewhat local to to you. If your friend is interested I can give her a handgun lesson at one of the local ranges. If she could cover the range fee and some of the cost of centerfire ammo I’d appreciate it. My time and .22 ammo is on me.

Feel free to pass my e-mail along to her if you think she’d be interested. She can bring a friend/SO if she isn’t sure about meeting a stranger at a gun range.

  3. We may take you up on that offer, Rob. She’s up in your neighborhood…
