unix geekery

pgrep and pkill are so damned simple and useful that I’m always a little shocked to find them missing from some modern UNIX-ish OSes. I’m lookin’ at you, Mac OS X.

  1. Apple wouldn’t want you to be able to do anything dangerous like terminating a zombie process. Further evidence that Apple is part of the zed cover-up.

  2. I don’t need pgrep and pkill. I can use pipes. Besides it came from Solaris. Blech.

  3. Oh alan, always bragging about your pipe-handling skills…
