Well, not so much. But I did find a Ruger No. 1 like mine fitted with the red Pachmayr Decelerator recoil pad I’d been considering, and it looks great. I’m gonna go ahead and get one put on my gun.
Unfortunately I lack the equipment and skill needed to properly install a grind-to-fit recoil pad, but the Williams Gun Sight people are nearby and will fit a pad for a reasonable price. I’m hoping to get up there on Friday.
Looks really nice, though I can imagine there’s only so much a recoil pad can do to cushion the blow from a monster cartridge like that.
The recoil isn’t really bad at all from offhand, but it hurts a little off of the benchrest. Ruger just puts a useless, rock-hard 1/2″ pad on these guns when they really need something thicker and softer.
