I’d hoped to have some more substantial gunblogging content up by now, but unfortunately I’ve had to put the shooting hobby on the back burner. You see, I’m a contract employee, and there’s a bit of uncertainty over whether I’ll have a job over the spring/summer. I could find myself unemployed the week before the Blog Bash. So I’ve cut back spending as far as I can, and I’ve temporarily shelved the shooty projects. The .450/.400, much as I love it, will have to wait awhile for its next range trip.
Hopefully I’ll have an answer within the next week or two; the uncertainty sucks.
I hope things sort themselves out in the best possible way regarding your job.
Sorry to hear that, TD. Let’s hope they don’t do “demographic” analysis for layoffs. I do note, however, that you could give a pointer or two to the federal government and public employee unions on how to deal with recession.
If the unions at my workplace keep doing what they’re doing, I may have to claim third-generation Eastern European immigrant status to try and avoid the white American male demographic category. I could also get a boob job; I’m sure the transvestite demographic has not met quota. And hey, it’s probably covered by the ridiculously expensive and unnecessarily broad HMO plan we have, along with treatments for injuries due to saber-tooth tiger attacks.
I’ve been cutting down my spending and wiping out debt since January, hoping to be able to put some distance between myself and the hobo lifestyle before the tax increases happen after the new FY on July 1. Almost there!
As far as shooting: I’m burning through my stockpiles from three years ago, but it doesn’t make sense to be driving to the club once a week, so practice is going to be CO2 pistols, in the basement. My new gun project is called off until winning lottery ticket arrives. So far this year, lead scrap recovery has yielded surprisingly paltry results. This means big bore pistols are out unless I suddenly discover a huge pile of lead for free.
Looking the overall hobby budget, I’ve determined that this summer it’s going to be much cheaper to shoot photographs instead of lead, so I’ve bought NiMH batteries instead of making deep withdrawals from Tim’s Hand Loading Bank and Trust.
