Big Things in the Works

Haven’t been posting much gun stuff, but I’m busily researching what should be a very fun shooting project involving lots of recoil and the “reek of cordite.” Well, okay, that’s a lie. You can’t get real Cordite anymore and it’s a shitty propellant anyways. But it should be a lot of fun just the same.

And boy howdy, do reloading components get expensive when you add the words “Nitro Express” to their name!

  1. Cordite’s real easy and oh so handy though. IIRC it’s guncotton (nitrocellulose) dissolved in acetone and dried into “spaghetti strands”. Chop, stuff, top, crimp, done.

Useful knowledge for an extended WWZ :)

  2. Don’t forget petrolatum. There are different types of Cordite, though I don’t think it was ever perfected. But…ball powder sucks and everyone loves it.

  3. Ooh, you mentioned the magic words(“Recoil”/”Nitro Express”).

Would this possibly involve one of those new 450/400 Ruger #1s?

  4. You got one, didn’t you?

    You bastard. :)
