You should never point a loaded gun at anyone. This is not a hard and fast rule, however. A hard and fast rule is that you should never, ever, point an unloaded gun at anyone.

My First Smith

I didn’t mention it yesterday since I was so excited about my CZ coming back, but I also picked up my no-lock Smith & Wesson 642. Took it down to the local PD today for the requisite “Safety Inspection” (read: registration) and I’ll probably get it out to the range tomorrow. Just one pic, because it looks like every other 642 out there; the only remarkable feature is the lack of an integral lock.

 Smith & Wesson 642-1

First impression: this little guy’s gonna be tough to shoot. As I told a few bloggers via IM yesterday, I’m used to working with twice the gun weight and half the trigger pull. I’ve been dry-firing heavily to break in both the trigger and my finger. Right now, I’d need superglue to keep a dime balanced on the front sight.

For those keeping score, it’s stamped 642-1 under the crane and the serial has a DCM prefix, like the other guns in this series. Range report to follow!

  1. Looks to me like that gun is pointing at your balls.

  2. ;) Now, what if it just went off as guns do? ;)

  3. No, I had my leg crossed in front of me and the gun sitting in the crook of my knee. Plus it’s visibly unloaded and there wasn’t even any .38 Special ammo in the house when I took that picture.

  4. Oh my God! It doesn’t matter! Unloaded guns go off all the time!

You HAVE to PROTECT your precious BODILY FLUIDS! (and the nads, very important those are).

  5. I like it, esp. with the hammer shroud.

  6. [...] I’ve now owned a Smith & Wesson 642 for a month and a half, I’m obviously qualified to dispense expert advice on the subject. [...]
