The Unforgiving Minute
The kind of man who wants the government to adopt and enforce his ideas is always the kind of man whose ideas are idiotic.

I’m there.

TD: is there a what-have-you on Wednesday?
Friend: to the best of my knowledge, yes.. i believe it might be “making sushi” night
TD: inneresting… can I get profoundly drunk and crudely proposition your fiancee in front of you?
Friend: absolutely! in fact, it sounds like more fun than we could hope for
TD: I’m there.

New carry ammo?

After years of hearing Tam sing their praises, I finally ordered up some Georgia Arms ammo for myself. I have 500 rounds of their “Canned Heat” bulk-pack 9mm 115gr FMJ and 50 rounds of their 124gr Gold Dot +P en route.

My usual carry load in my CZ and Hi-Power is the Speer LE 124gr +P Gold Dot, SKU 53617, which usually costs me around $25 for 50 rounds. This is the stuff labeled “Law Enforcement,” but to the best of my knowledge it’s identical to the “civilian,” CCI-branded 124gr +P Gold Dot ammo, SKU 23617, which typically sells for $20/20 rounds. Georgia Arms’ offering should be ballistically identical and sells for $18.75/50. For the non-math-majors, here’s how that breaks down:

Ammo Price per round
CCI 23617 $1.00
Speer 53617 $0.50
Georgia Arms $0.38

Obviously that’s a pretty significant difference. If the Georgia Arms stuff impresses me I’ll switch over to them completely (once my current stock of Speer ammo is exhausted).

Range report to follow.

Sunday Funnies

Definitely not safe for work, but one of the funniest damn things I’ve seen in weeks. Especially because I hate Rachael Ray. Send the kids out of the room before you play that.

Temptation

Came > < that close to celebrating the Heller decision by buying a new Glock 32 this afternoon.

Might have to go back for it tomorrow. It’s what the Founding Fathers would’ve wanted.

Jabber away!

After much swearing and cursing I finally have Jabber/XMPP up and running on the site. All you Google Talk people can now IM me at td [at] unforgivingminute.com.

Especially in the mornings. Trust me, they’re REALLY slow right now…

Whew.

As I’m sure you all know by now, Heller went the right way.

The build-up of anticipation over the past week made for some restless nights and anxious mornings for me and I’m sure I wasn’t the only one. I spent the morning watching the live updates on SCOTUSBLOG, reading the court’s ruling, and discussing it all with pdb and Sebastian.

IANAL, never played one on TV, and didn’t stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night, but the majority opinion looks about as good as we could have hoped; I wasn’t expecting “Free M4s for everybody!”

5/4. Too close for comfort.

Still need to read the losers’ dissenters’ opinions. I skimmed through them briefly but all the head-shaking and eye-rolling was making me dizzy. You really have to wonder if those justices realize which country they live in.

And now, it’s off to the range!

You never make ‘em touch!

Well, SCOTUS wants to keep playing “just the tip” for as long as possible, so it’s looking like Wednesday or Thursday for the Heller decision.

I got nothin’ to report, so here’s my favorite Whitest Kids U Know sketch, “Slow Jerk.” Seems rather appropriate.

Summertime Blues.

Been in a generally foul mood for the past week or so, hence no blogging.

On the up side, Rommel seems to be doing much better after a week of rest and anti-inflammatories.

On the down side, I switch back to the 8 AM shift at work this week… and so does the Worst. Cow-Orker. Evar. This guy is lazy, stupid, appallingly smelly, physically repulsive in every way, and utterly useless. And I’ll be working with him all day, every day. I have a feeling things are going to get very ugly before the summer’s over.

In Other News, I regretfully bailed out of the Indy Blog Bash today; just couldn’t justify a 600-mile roadtrip with gas at $4/gal. for the sake of spending a few hours in a pub. I hope y’all had fun, and I’ll try to make the next one.

Tomorrow, Heller! (maybe).
