What manner of madness is this?

Michigan’s first Sonic Drive-In opened up this Monday, just around the corner from my house. As of mid-afternoon today (Friday) the line is still over a quarter-mile long and cops are on the scene to manage traffic.

  1. I hate you. I can’t tell you how jealous I am.

  2. I’ve never been to a Sonic, but we get a similar reaction here in Northern California every time SoCal fixture In-N-Out Burger opens up another franchise in this part of the state.

  3. That happened with the one that opened down the street from us, here in The Oregon Territory…

And the lines kept up for about the first month.

  4. Dare you to wander over there on foot, and say to a few people waiting in their cars, “You know, I had some down in Tennessee, and it’s really not that great. It’s like Burger King with shredded lettuce. And tater tots.”

  5. I like Sonic. But a 1/4 mile line? Anyone waiting in a line like that for fast food is an idiot.

  6. Blasphemy, Squeaky! Who can forget the Cheddar Peppers? Come on, those alone take Sonic lightyears ahead of the competition. Oh, and the Coconut Cream Pie shakes, and the Cherry Limeades. Before Dr. Pepper released their versions of “Cherry Vanilla Dr. Pepper,” we were mixing those versions for years at the local Sonic. (Local Sonic where I grew up being 35 minutes away. Yes, we would go that far for Sonic.)
