Gotta feeling in my knees that tells me the degrees
I been loved on
Ya got dents in your head that tell me all the beds
You’ve been shoved on
Such a beautiful song, lovingly performed. Hey, does Kit have a wedding song picked out yet?

My eyes have finally recovered sufficiently from this afternoon’s dilation so that I can look at a monitor without pain. For whatever reason, the dilating drops don’t work as quickly as they should for me, so I always end up getting double- or triple-dosed. An hour later, I’m so goddamn dilated I’m ready to give birth.
As you probably guessed, today was my biannual eye exam, which my doctor says I need so she can bill me twice as often make sure I’m not going blind. I have a couple of risk factors for glaucoma, though fortunately I’m fine so far. Prescription’s been holding steady for the past three years (instead of numbers, my prescription slip just says “bad” and “even worse”) and intra-ocular pressure was actually lower today than at my last checkup.
So I am happy that I had a good checkup, and I am relieved that I am not (yet) going (completely) blind, because that would interfere with my two main hobbies: shooting and internet pr0n blogging. Hmm, I wonder if there’s Braille pornography. Google says yes.
Had lunch with my mother and grandmother before the eye exam, which produced this exchange:
Mom: What’s the matter with you? You’re out in public and you have holes in your jeans!
TD: I know. People wear them that way.
Mom: But there’s a hole in the CROTCH!
TD: That’s why I’m wearing underwear today.
Mom: [horrified look, audible gasp]
The elderly can be so endearing.

Me, that is. Because I’m about to encourage my readers to watch VH1. I apologize in advance, but lemme ’splain.
On Wednesday night at 8 PM Eastern time, VH1 Classic is airing a documentary called NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell. If you’re even slightly interested in early east-coast punk, this looks absolutely irresistible.
Something strange and magical happened in New York in 1977; almost every week brought the release of a revolutionary album. Richard Hell and the Voidoids put out Blank Generation. The Ramones did Leave Home and Rocket to Russia. Television released Marquee Moon. Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakers somehow managed to finish L.A.M.F. The Dead Boys came out of nowhere with Young, Loud and Snotty. Suicide unleashed Suicide. And though they were British bands, the Clash’s first album, the Damned’s Damned Damned Damned and the Sex Pistols’ Never Mind the Bollocks never would’ve happened without the New York punks leading the way. And that’s only the stuff I can think of off the top of my head; it seems like fully half the music I love came out in that year.
So this documentary has real promise, and it looks like the filmmakers did their homework. They lined up a good cross-section of survivors of the early punk scene: Danny Fields, who worked with the Doors and the Stooges before managing the Ramones; rock photographer Bob Gruen; Richard Hell, who was at various times in the Voidoids, the Heartbreakers, and Television; Hilly Kristal, owner of CBGB; Legs McNeil from Punk magazine; original Ramones drummer Tommy Ramone; Chris Stein of Blondie; Seymour Stein from Sire Records; and the “fifth Ramone,” Arturo Vega. Considering the attrition rate among punk rockers, you can’t ask for more than that; everybody else is dead.
The timing is great, too. I’ve been picking away at a post about L.A.M.F., off and on, for about three months. Maybe this will give me a little inspiration to finish the damn thing.

Check out the retouching portfolio on this site. No wonder so many women have self-esteem problems.

Over the past few days I’ve had this strangely intense craving for unagi. Tonight I finally went out and ate a whole mess of it, and DAMN was it good. I need to find a way to buy that stuff by the case.
EDIT: Score!

My dog is the reincarnation of Lo Pan.

And we still need ONE more person for the mini-computer group buy. All the cool kids are doing it.
